happy anniversary to me. today marked 14 days that i have been living on the east coast. it seemed like just another day until kris10 pointed out the significance of it. my how the time does fly.. and thanks krizz. :)
i've had a ton on my mind lately and am not feeling coherent enough to put together anything resembling an intelligent blog, so i'll just give a few highlights of my first weeks here.
-most recent, today (and probably most exciting).. i got a job! at a swanky starbucks in the heart of the reston town center. basically,, i'm pretty excited about this. most of the customers are decked out in suits and ties.. it will be quite an experience!
-i have navigated the confusing streets of reston somewhat successfully, all on my own! my favorite, absolute favorite thing about the roads here is the fact that street names just change into something else with NO warning. so you're cruising along, minding your own business, when BAM! suddenly you find yourself on an entirely different road (and in most cases, somehow all 3 lanes get channeled onto toll road, whether you want to go or not!) rant over.
-i am moved into my new room. i still need to get a bookcase and a few other small things, but i am totally amazed and blessed by how at home i feel here and how quickly that happened.
-also in my first two weeks here, i seemed to have succumbed to every illness known to man. or woman. from fever to vomiting, i had it all. the highlight was when damien (brother in law) threatening to force water down my throat so he wouldn't have to call the medics (his coworkers) to put an iv in me. i do understand the importance of staying hydrated. he, however, didn't seem to comprehend the fact that i was a bit wary to drink water when i was just throwing it up. anyway, too much info. moving on.
-i took calvin out to the playground the other day and decided that during those nightmare-ish 30 minutes, i am in no way ready to be a mother! in those few moments, he managed to eat dirt, fall down, nearly fall off the slide, nearly fall out of a swing, and get his pants soaked in some old water that was pooled in the slide. bah! meanwhile, i had bundled up since it looked so overcast outside, well, it proved to be about 110 with humidity factored in. basically, i was sweating up a storm and getting eaten by hundreds of mosquito's! bah! yeah, mosquitos are a big deal here!
-i have totally adapted to the fact that everything that i want/need is within 2 minutes time. it finally sank in today, that i will probably only have to fill up the gas tank about once every two months! basically, it was a good realization. :)
-there are tons of walking/running trails around. michelle and i went out the other day and it was just fun. once i have my work schedule i want to start finding times to go running. it is so pretty!
-there is a couple from "our" church who have a daughter who is about 6 months and they need somebody to watch her on thursday night. yep, i'm doing a bit of babysitting on the side. because,,, why not? ha! theres nothing here to stop me! so, that will be an experience i'm quite sure. i've never watched such a young child before.
well, i seem to have gotten a bit off the topic here.. oh well, basically, that is what i've been up to. life is good. God is faithful. :) things are coming together for me and i couldn't be happier about it.
